Nope! You just have to have a good idea. UChicago and Chicago Medicine students, faculty, and staff can enter. (Full- and part-time employees of IT Services, Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship, and UChicagoTech can enter, but are not eligible for the $1000 prize.)
I'M NOT SURE WHAT COGNITIVE COMPUTING IS. CAN YOU EXPLAIN IT TO ME QUICKLY?
We can tell you in one minute.
OK, I MIGHT TRY. HOW HARD IS IT TO ENTER?
It's as simple as filling out a series of human-understandable questions. Nothing else is required, except your good idea. Your first submission might take all of half an hour, if you're already well versed in the problem and solution!
You could win one of 2 things:
1. Every entry submitted is eligible for consideration for a Spring 2016 Practicum in conjunction with the UChicago Masters Program in Computer Science. If your entry is chosen, your idea will become part of a 10-week project with a student programmer and Cognitive Computing subject matter expert. Practicum evaluation happens over the course of the Winter quarter, and results will be announced before Spring quarter.
2. One lucky entry will receive $1000. Pretty good for 30 minutes worth of work!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
WHAT KIND OF IDEAS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
What are you an expert in? Does your field, career or personal life have problems that could be solved (or helped out) with a computer that understands your questions and can research vast quantities of data quickly? See some examples of ideas.
DOES MY IDEA HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC TO UCHICAGO?
No. We're looking for ideas of all kinds, but if you've got a cool idea for campus or the community, submit it!
WHAT'S MY FIRST DEADLINE?
November 30, 11:59 PM.
WHERE'S THE SUBMISSION FORM? Right here!
WHO IS SPONSORING THIS? IS THIS A NEW THING?
It's a new thing, but the same sponsors that have been bringing you Challenges for years!
All entry abstracts (100-word summary) are subject to use for our website advertising purposes. The judging will be held privately by a team of evaluators, including one or more from outside the University.
